Education

HSBC Cayman has committed to “adopting” the library at the George Town Primary School. The library, which serves children aged 5 through 10 years at the public primary school located in central George Town, was in need of improvements following destruction by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. HSBC Cayman’s assistance will provide new books and computers to the library to aid in the development of students’ reading and research skills.

Environment

Preserving Cayman’s environment has been another key cause for HSBC Cayman. In 2008, bank employees organised and participated in neighbourhood clean-ups in honour of Earth Day. Staff volunteered their time to pick up trash and debris in the Rock Hole area of central George Town, as well as in the North West Point area of West Bay. In addition to participating in the clean-ups, staff have also being involved in tree-plantings and have also committed to more environmentally friendly work practices.

Community

HSBC Cayman regularly supports community activities and causes. Recent activities include the distribution of books as Christmas gifts to children across Grand Cayman, as well as support of the Cayman Islands Maritime Heritage Foundations’ cultural education programmes, the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps music education programme, and support for Leading Edge High School students to attend the Central Caribbean Marine Institute located on Little Cayman.
